Nicole Mueller is an artist from San Francisco. Her artwork includes large-scale works, murals, and installations inspired by the look from stained glass. Inspiring by the process, her abstract works are highly saturated, built with layers of collage-like shapes. Her work explores the complexities of color, the state of change, the dichotomies that exist within painting, the change of existence, as well as the threshold between interior and exterior, both tangible and intangible.
About my background
I'm primarily a painter, being a full-time artist in San Francisco, California.
My background also includes painting murals, installation work, as well as doing the field of arts administration as well as career advancement.
I was a student at MICA. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) located in Baltimore, where I lived for a number of years before making the move into on the West coast.
A significant portion of my job and purpose involves hosting Beyond the Studio with fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast that aims to increase visibility in the world of art through interviews with other contemporary artists on their careers paths.
My fashion
My work is mostly intuitive that is driven by process. abstract, highly saturated, built with color and layers of collage-like forms.
I paint large-scale and light-activated windows which mimic the effect of stained glass as well as murals. Within this work I'm studying dichotomies, state of flux and the threshold between external and interior, and both tangible and intangible.
What is the secret to creating my art
I believe that being consistent in your attendance for your job is crucial. For me creating a practice in the studio and setting myself goals to keep moving forward has made it easier for me to prioritize my work whenever life gets in the way. Also, being aware of when I should step back and take a break or rest (for a day up to a month or longer).
