Work on installation and painting The CreativeMindClass Blog
Nicole Mueller is an artist hailing from San Francisco. Her work includes works of large scale along with murals and installations which are inspired by the appearance that stained glass creates. Inspired by the process, these abstract artworks are bright and saturated. They are made up of layers of collage-like forms. Her work explores the complexity of color, the state of flux, the dichotomies that exist within painting, the shifting character of the human condition, the line between the inside and external, and between the tangible and intangible.
My background
I'm mostly a painter being a full-time artist living in San Francisco, California.
My professional experience includes mural painting, installation work and also my work in the area of arts administration and professional advancement.
I attended art classes at The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) located within Baltimore in Maryland, where I resided for several months before moving to the west coast.
An important part of my mission and job involves hosting Beyond the Studio with my friend and fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast that aims to increase awareness of the industry of art by conducting interviews with other contemporary artists about their professional paths.
About my way of dressing
My work is based on intuition that is driven by process. abstract, extremely dense, adorned by layers of color, and patterns of collage like colors.
I paint large-scale and windows that are activated by light to replicate the visual effects of stained glass and murals. Through this series, I am looking at dichotomies and changes in the state of things, the boundaries between interior and exterior, the tangible and intangible.
What's the secret of the creation of my art work?
My opinion is that being consistent in doing your job is crucial. For me developing a studio practice and setting myself targets to achieve helped me to prioritize my work when life gets in the way. Also, it helps to take the time to slow down and enjoy a moment of take a break (for weeks, days, or even more).
