About the fiber artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist as well as an illustrator based in Baltimore. I relocated to Baltimore in order to attend MICA, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in which Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we started the Beyond the Studio podcast together. In the past nine years, I've been building up my art-related business, a small one Close Call Studio which I run in full-time.

What is your style?

My art style, whether that's drawing, sewing or whatever is unselfconscious designed to please and inspire people. My style can be moody or direct and some of my pieces can seem a bit dark but there's always some humor and a sense of play.

What's the secret to making your art?

It changes from season to year, however having an attitude that is "no stress" at the drawing table is fundamental to me at the moment. I've always put a great amount of stress on myself that didn't show well in my work or the rest of my life. Creating spaces for relaxation and garden are just as imperative for my work like sitting down and drawing.
