Riso Chan about embracing her authentic, sensitive artist
My work is emotionally charged. My work is based on the images of feelings that I am feeling. My entire life, I have been an extremely sensitive individual. Since when I was young I have experienced something that caused me to feel uncomfortable which I then tried to get rid of it away. (...) As you grow older and realize you are in good shape and everybody feels distinct. I was inspired to harness all of the emotion I have in my everyday life and start painting. Drawing on it helps spark my creativity as well as to spark fresh ideas. It's awe-inspiring because of what I've been struggling to put down all of my life, all of a sudden I could put the idea on paper and it seemed like a great feeling of relief. I have finally found a space that I can make use of this sense and utilize these feelings of pleasure or pains and put them on paper. This was a truly amazing event that led me to a state of gratefulness. It started resonating across a variety of people as well. I was opening the door and jotting down ideas on paper that I'd never dreamed of before. In contrast to trying to become like other artists who have already "made their mark" I was really listening to what I wanted to convey and who I was as a person. I tried to take on something I was not happy with about me and realized it was my strength. I'm so happy to be the most sensitive person I am.
