The Autopian

"You must know the people you're looking for before establishing an organization built around membership," begins Matt Hardigree, publisher of The Autopian. "I have had issues the sense that people believe exist readers that aren't in the market. It's a bit complicated, but it's not that hard. You can apply everything you've acquired."

If you're writing for a web-based platform, check out the amount of readers that you've got. "If you're on a site which has 10 writers and all of us would like to start something, what is the total number of people who read our content? Are we 15% of site's traffic? This isn't a lot. Are we the ones who make up over 20% of web traffic?"

In the past, The Autopian founders David Tracy and Jason Torchinsky made up 50 percent of all traffic on Jalopnik. "They might have believed "We are able to start something and it's possible"," continues Matt. "What's intriguing is David and Jason haven't been able to draw huge numbers of followers on social media. That might seem like the most obvious way to convert followers into users. But they didn't have to translate as they already had followers.

The Autopian

In the days before the launch of its website, The Autopian did a study of the competition both the automobile industry and in media. "We have a good idea of the number of car customers visit these websites. Consider the following: once you have taken out the expense, then what do we require for success? Consider asking yourself, what is the origins of these individuals? from? How much of the population know about our actual identities? What percentage are aware? What percentage of them is required to fulfill the sustainability criteria What percentage of them are aware? For memberships, how much are we going to be charging? ? '."

He says: "You can make some assumption - it's just not important to verify it, but you have to be able to access the information points. Once you've begun making predictions, you'll have the capacity to link the data points in order to figure your direction and alter your predictions. If you're not able to find information and are just guessing, you have to perform the math then figure out the answer.

Matt acknowledges that even when you've done your homework, you are likely to experience that "wait and wait" feeling "In the first 30 mins up to about an hour following the start of my membership, it was in complete chaos! I was wondering "What's going to happen?" When the new staff members began coming in, it was great! Additionally, we're continuing to conduct the research of information and we're always analysing what areas are performing the best, and what's not."

Engaging strategies and ways to grow

"I consider that we're just 10% of what our members can become," Matt continues. "We've been successful, and we've seen a number of members. The top 10% of members are most simple to acquire. The remainder will be the most difficult. Every tranche will be more challenging than the one before it. The issue will be resolved."

Matt thinks that 10x growth is certainly the goal of five years. "If you are able to reach 50% of this amount, then we're nearly completely sustained at our current level of members. If we can reach 100%, we're far better able to sustain ourselves through our membership fee or are getting paid through membership. It's great to achieve this goal."

What is their strategy to accomplish the goal? What are they planning to offer as a member benefits and how can they use this to draw in new members?

Matt responds: "It's a balance because The Autopian is a journalism venture as well as an enthusiast-driven endeavor. We see it as three distinct buckets to assist members to sign up and to keep members in the fold through making The Autopian feel valuable."

Strategy 1: Content

Matt says that the main classification is content. "We need to create content that's attractive enough, and good enough, and distinctive enough from other content accessible elsewhere. And I'm allowed to see this material through Autopian. It is my obligation to become part of The Autopian if I want to see it continue.'

The Autopian

"You're not paying for access to this since there's no paywalled access for the content. The reason you pay is because you'd like to have it everywhere." Matt confirms this to be the Autopian's primary value-added proposition "You need this available, and it's going to cost the user $4 per month or 10 dollars per month or $85 per year to certain types of people."

Strategies 2 and The Benefits

Bucket 2 depicts the products users receive such as Discord access, clothing such as T-shirts, as well as access to numerous events, like trivia nights as well as products like stickers and badges.

"We offer a wide range of goods you'll receive as when you purchase an auto. On the lower end, you'll find cloth ($70/year) and then vinyl ($100/year) and then velour at $250/year, then at the top is a lavish Corinthian leather that costs one thousand dollars annually. It's more common to use the leather and velour is more than I could believe!"

"One of the things that you receive is a birthday sketch Our co-founder has a talent as an artist. We hadn't anticipated receiving such a large number of drawings, and we're seeing more birthday themed artworks than we anticipated. we're still not done!"

A per-year rate of $1000 seems like a ridiculous amount, however this came by a respected media firm Defector. They informed Matt that they may find more customers who can afford $1000 than they anticipated. "I considered to myself "I'm not sure how much I can afford, but what about $1,000? It said"Do it!"" Matt smiles.

"They are also saying that they would prefer a middle stage, since they're at two levels below and at an upper level" he says. "We went through a great discussions about this, but we finally settled at 250 dollars per year. It was the best figure because we have large number of Velour members. This year, we witnessed an increase in the number of Velour members who moved from vinyl to velour and then back to vinyl. Over 100 people have moved from 250 to change from 100 to. I think we've found exactly what we want!"

The Autopian

Autopian recognizes that they recognize that the Autopian team is aware that behind-the-scenes content is very well-loved. They offer procedural material for example, such as the one they used in deciding on the name, and also their "Tales From Slack". Matt clarifies: "We have our internal Slack, and it's not designed to be shared with anyone else."

"People are inclined to make up outrageous, absurd and funny things!" Matt is having a great time. "Our director of editing David isn't a great knowledge of pop culture, which is why he's often confused by things. He believed that Ronan was actually Serpico. He was of the opinion that the Al Pacino movie set in the 1970s was actually a Robert de Niro film first released in the late 1990s!"

Strategy 3. Fear of Losing Out (FOMO)

"The third kind of media - the type that is performing extremely well, and that many users do not consider is FOMO. It is important for people not to miss out on important information," Matt continues.

"We use our private Discord with a weekly column every week that contains advice. The Discord which we utilize is free to use as well as accessible to everyone. There is a separate community for members" he says. "I would suggest users post photos in chat like "Here's me with my t-shirt and badge'. There are many who want to be part of this."

Matt claims that this strategy of recruiting new members is working really well when you consider the type of content you make. "Every now and then we'll run a 'Here's all you'll receive' campaign to showcase the benefits that members gain from joining."

The Autopian

In the future, they'll have the ability to thank their communities "We appreciate our comments We appreciate our members who help us to improve. If you're not a current member, we're aware. Many people do not have enough funds. If you're a student, whatever level you're in is okay with us. If you're not able to earn the money, consider getting into the habit of being an avid reader. is a reader. We'd like to welcome you as a member and to make you an integral member of our community. If you're an enthusiast for such things and would like to join us, we'll provide an opportunity to be a part of our community."

Then we'll publish the FOMO blog where Jason will say 'Here are my birthday-themed drawings that I made this month. I hope you'll enjoy them! Viewers will be able to take a look and think 'God I'd love this.'

Communities are available in many shapes and sizes, including birthday cards for those who love cars.
