The Autopian

"You should be aware of those who are likely to become your customers prior to setting up an organisation which is built upon membership" states Matt Hardigree, publisher of The Autopian. "I had problems where people believed that there will exist a base of subscribers that already exists. This is a mathematical issue however it's not unsolvable. It's as easy as utilizing every bit of information you've got."

If you're writing on your site, take a look at the amount of people who visit your website. "If you're on a website along with ten other writers, and we're all looking to create something, how do we have in common? We represent 15% of users who visit the site? This isn't much. The ones who make up 80 percent of the website's users?"

The past was when The Autopian founders David Tracy and Jason Torchinsky made up 50 percent of Jalopnik's traffic. "They might have believed "We can start something and we can do this'" continues Matt. "What's fascinating is that David and Jason aren't known for having large numbers of followers on their platforms and this is the easiest method to convert them into readers. They weren't required to have the number of followers because they already have followers.

The Autopian

Prior to the debut The Autopian did a study of the landscape of competition within the automotive and media industries. "We are aware of how many car fans visit various sites. Consider this situation: once you've calculated the amount you'd like to spend, what are you require in order in order to succeed? Think about asking your self: What country are these individuals of? How many of them are aware of our identity What percentage of them know about our identity? And what percentage is required in order to reach the target that is able to last? And what percent of them are aware? In terms of membership, what is realistically possible to afford? ? '."

The report concludes: "You can make some presumptions, but you do not have to show that it. But it's important to gather the relevant information. If you have the information and you have it, you'll be able incorporate those details into the dataset and identify the places that aren't quite right, and then make the necessary adjustments. If you're lacking data or are unsure that isn't true, you'll need to use math to find the right answer.

Matt says that when you've done your homework, you'll have"in your head" feelings "In the first minute of when I signed up for the membership process, I was in a state of chaos! I thought, "What's going to happen? The memberships started coming into my office, I was awestruck! Our team continues to do the study of data and is constantly looking at the things that are working well and the ones that don't."

Strategies for engagement and methods to grow

"I consider that we're 10% of what would need to have around 10"" Matt continues. "We've achieved our goals and we've seen a large number of members. However, the initial 10% is the one that's easiest to obtain. The last 10% of people are more difficult. Each phase will become more difficult than the preceding one. "We'll need to be thinking a lot."

Matt says that the 10x rate of growth certainly an achievable goal for the next five years. "If we are able to achieve 50 percent of the amount we require, the business is stable financially by the members. If we manage to reach 100%, then we'll be much higher than the cost of membership or the money earned through membership fees alone. It's great for us to reach our goal."

What is their strategy to reach this goal? What benefits do they provide members through advantages? And how will they make use of this in order to attract new members?

Matt replies: "It's a balance because The Autopian is a journalism project in addition to being the project that is powered by enthusiastic users. We see it as having three distinct categories that encourage users to join, and encourage them to be a part of the project by creating The Autopian feel valuable."

Strategy 1: Content

Matt says that the primary category is content. "We must create something that's interesting enough, good enough, and different enough from other materials available in other places. It is only accessible in the Autopian. It is crucial to be a part of The Autopian if I want the dream to become possibility.'

The Autopian

"You're not paying to gain access to the content, as there's no paywalled access to it. The reason is that you would like it to be available everywhere." Matt states that the content will be used as the most important benefit "You want this to come to fruition so fast that you'll have to pay $4 per month. every month 10 times or $85 per month for certain customers."

Strategies 2 and The Benefits

The Bucket 2 represents the goods players receive like Discord access, apparel such as T-shirts, tickets for trivia nights and other events and other things like badges or stickers.

"We provide a wide range of items that's comparable to buying a vehicle. The cheapest comes cloth ($70/year) and then vinyl ($100/year) and finally Velour costing $250 each year. On the other hand, the highest priced price is Corinthian leather which costs $1000 per year. It is more common for people to make use of velour and leather than I would like to think of!"

"One thing you'll receive is a birthday card. One of our co-founders has a talent for drawing. We weren't expecting to receive so many cards, and he's been drawing a lot better birthday drawings than we expected. We're still learning about his personality!"

The cost per month of $1000 might seem a huge sum, however it was the suggestion of well-established media company Defector. Defector advised Matt that they could get more customers who are able to invest the money they expected to. "I thought to myself"I I don't have an idea of the sum, how much does $1,000?' They were like"Do this!" Matt smiles.

"They also said that they would like to create a middle-tier stage, as they're at two levels lower in comparison to a higher one." the manager says. "We looked at the idea for some time before settling on $250/year. This was the correct amount because there is a large number of Velour members. In the past year, more people switched between velour and vinyl, then eventually, to vinyl. Actually, there were more who could go between 100 and 250 instead of moving from 100-250. It's likely that you're right!"

The Autopian

Autopian's Autopian team also found that behind-the-scenes videos are popular. Autopian also publishes procedural materials that include their method used to come up with the headline. They also offer "Tales about Slack". Matt states: "We have our internal Slack. This isn't intended to be accessed by anyone else."

"People tend to say ridiculous hilarious, ridiculous and absurd things!" Matt smiles. "Our Director of Editing David doesn't have an appreciation for popular culture, so he's constantly having trouble getting things just right. He believed that Ronan was actually a Serpico film. He also believed that the famous Al Pacino film from the 70s wasn't actually the Robert de Niro film that was released during the 90s!"

Strategy 3. Fear of Losing Itself (FOMO)

"The third content bucket which is very effective, yet is often overlooked is FOMO. The people don't want to risk being left out of crucial content" Matt continues.

"We have a discord which has every day columns of suggestions and guidelines. The chatroom is completely open to all and free to join," he adds. "I would suggest users post photos in the chatroom"Here's me wearing my shirt and badge' and I'm hoping that people will be eager to join us."

Matt mentions that recruiting members is an approach which can be very effective in the context of your type of content that you create. "Every every now and then, we'll run"Here's all you'll receive" to remind people of the benefits associated with signing to sign up."

The Autopian

In near future the communities will be recognized by saying: "We love our commenters and that's why we're so amazing. If you're not able to join We understand. Some people don't have enough money. If you're in school, what ever that means is understandable. If you're struggling to pay your expenses, take a look. We're here to help you, and would love to make you an integral member of our team. If you're one of the fans of thing There's an avenue to become part of our community."

Then, we'll start the FOMO blog, where Jason will write 'Here's the complete list of my birthday sketches I made this month!' After that, the public will look at the drawings and think "God I'd like this.'

Communities which have been created can be found all kinds of sizes. There is even the option of sending birthday cards to the people who are passionate about cars.
