This is our first interview with illustrator design, creative, and instructor Maia Faddoul. Maia is an early-generation Canadian artist, who operates from her Montreal studio. She draws vibrant and vivid illustrations for editorials, packaging publication, and much more. Her style is high contrast, bright and vibrant usually with a subtle message of social justice hidden in.

Maia is an avid color enthusiast and kind of a maximalist when it comes to her art style. Maia makes use of her artwork as a way to express her convictions, to speak up on injustices, and bring consciousness to causes that mean for her. Make sure you check out her Instagram and also her Etsy store where she sells her fun flowers earrings. Come along as we dig deeper into the mind and creative process from Maia Faddoul.

I see my drawing style as "High Contrast'.

My style is vivid, high-contrast and colorful, often with a subtle social justice message hiding somewhere. I'm a huge fan of color and a bit of a maximalist when it comes to my artistic style.

What's the most important thing in creating your illustration?

A major aspect of my practice is making art that reflects my beliefs and beliefs. I'm not the most outspoken or outgoing person, and so I usually make art as a means to voice my views, express my opinion, talk about injustices and raise awareness to causes that mean a lot to me.
