We inquired with Titika what was the secret to creating her mysterious images in black and white.

"My Name is Titika Rotkjaer. I'm an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. After studies in communication at Roskilde University, Denmark, I relocated to Norway to further my studies in visual art initially in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts then in Bergen in Bergen, where I concluded my visual art studies in the Bergen Academy of Art and Design which included an MA in Textile Art. I do not have formal instruction in photography. The knowledge I have about editing and photography is derived from continuous education on my own.

Do you want to know about my style? Would I like to discuss style rather than style? I never think about style... I tell stories through an intimate and poetic perspective Each image is a result of my focus in determining mood, expression and the mood. Developing how my images appear is a process. I always aim to refine and clarify the expression. Sometimes I re-edit old images when I learn something new that allows me to move closer to the image I was trying to achieve.

My secret ingredient to create my mysterious photographies ...? The majority of my photographs that I have created over the past four years, I've been exploring the complexity and self-awareness with a special interest in the relationship between both the outer and inner worlds. Some of my photographs - but not all - comprise digitally from several images (all obviously, shot by me).

My process typically starts by expressing an interest or curiosity to explore a theme or complex of feelings. I shoot, write notes, read and gain additional knowledge. Then I continue to shoot. Working with the images often leads me to construct an original image out of many others. I experiment, subjectively as well as intuitively with the subject matter to let my pictures develop. It's difficult to have an exact idea of what I want to achieve to my eye, and I then photograph the elements that construct the picture."
