Motion and space in illustration This is the CreativeMindClass Blog

Aug 6, 2022

Since as a young child I've been drawn to paint and use my hands. This has always been the easiest way for me to express my feelings. Growing as a child in Taiwan, pursuing the art of making was often looked down upon and often advised by parents to take classes in deeper into practical topics, or else I'll end being hungry on the streets.

It is a blessing that my mom has always encouraged me to pursue anything that I desired and has done everything in her power to help to achieve my dreams. Following my return to the United States and graduating high school, I made the decision that I would like to make art an occupation.

I was accepted to ArtCenter College of design, studying Illustration with the intention of going into the feature animation field. But along the way, I came across motion graphics and was enthralled by its versatility , as well as the amazing work that is produced by the people I admiration.

What would you say about your personal style?

I am still on the journey to finding a style that I can confidently call my personal. I tend to be drawn to trying different things from time to time... A month I'll want to do extremely vibrant things. Soon I'll be tempted to explore the more natural-looking colors. I'll find myself enthralled by a particular shape driving style for a while but then one day I'll get bored of it and will want to explore something that's more based on lines.

Sometimes, I'll attempt to merge opposite things that seem fascinating to me as if I'm on an endless quest to discover and discover. But after dabbling a little in a few places I'm starting to realize the specific designs, colours, or compositions I'm drawn to, perhaps that's a start of a design style?

That's a big reasons I enjoy working at Oddfellows, sometimes I still cannot believe that I'm fortunate to be part of an incredible group of people. In the workplace, we are often required to adapt to different styles for each project. virtually every project has to be completed in different styles which is why I am constantly learning new things from my peers every single day.

What's the secret to drawing your artwork?

I like to make drawings of subjects I am curious or interested in and then make my own interpretation of it.

However, my main goal is to have amusement. It is my opinion that having fun is key to making anything and viewers will be able to tell whether a person had fun performing something... the extra spark.
