Motion and space in illustration - The CreativeMindClass Blog
From the time I was a kid I've always loved drawing, paint and use my hands. This has always been my most natural method to express myself. But growing as a child in Taiwan, pursuing an artistic career was thought of as a negative thing and often told by adults to study more practical subjects otherwise I'd end being hungry on the streets.
It is a blessing that my mom has always encouraged me to pursue anything that I desired and has done everything in her power to help me achieve my objectives. When I returned in America, United States and graduating high school, I made the decision that I want to pursue art as an occupation.
I was accepted to ArtCenter College of design, studying Illustration with the intention of going into the feature animation field. However, along the way I discovered motion graphics and fell in love with their versatility as well as all the incredible work created by people I greatly admire.

What would you say about your personal style?
The process is still in the road to discovering a fashion that I'm able to identify as my personal. I am prone to want to try new things every so often... A month, I'll be drawn to doing extremely vibrant things. Soon I'll explore more naturalistic colors; I'll find myself enthralled by a particular shape car style for a few months and then, in the next day, I'll be tired of it and would like to experiment with a style that's inspired by the lines.
Sometimes, I'll attempt to combine two things I find intriguing like I'm on an endless quest to discover and learn. But after dabbling a little at times I'm starting to realize the specific shapes, colors, compositions I'm attracted to. Maybe this is the start of a style?
That's a big reasons why I am so happy being at Oddfellows, sometimes I still cannot believe that I'm fortunate enough to be working with an incredible group of people. At work we often have the ability to change our style from project to project, almost every project is done in different styles which is why I am constantly learning new things from my coworkers every day.
What's the secret to making your illustrations?
I enjoy drawing illustrations on subjects that interest me or am interested in, then try to add my own twist to it.
But most importantly I like to have fun. Fun is key to making anything, viewers can really tell whether a person had enjoyment doing something... that extra sparkle.
As I was battling the pandemic, watching my colleagues and our studio trying their best to help the local community, I was inspired to create a Patreon named Joy&Frens which gives 50% of the net revenue goes to charity that my patrons choose. There, I post Tips & Tricks, process videos, and invite my friends to collaborations and share their wisdom.
I also show my work on Instagram as well as on my site.
