Creativity runs in the family for artist and illustrator Kentaro Yoshida. His mother, who is also an artist, has been an important influencer on his work even though she wasn't entirely on board with his career moves. "First she wasn't a big fan of my being a full-time artist. She probably knew how hard it is, from her experience. However, I decided to give the idea a shot and, thankfully did not fail," Kentaro says. "She is definitely the biggest motivation to me."

Kentaro grew up in an unassuming fishing town in Toyama, Japan, but was able to move to Australia at age 18, and is now a resident of Sydney. Since his move to Australia, he's built a successful professional freelance business as an artist. His offerings include prints, custom-designed painting surfboards and murals, and collaborating with major brands and musicians.

Read on to learn the ways Kentaro created his distinctive aesthetic, and also how his website has evolved with him over the last decade to further support his art career as well as express his personal style.
