This is our first conversation with Canadian illustrator designer, artist, educator, and designer Maia Faddoul. Maia is a first-generation Canadian artist who is based in her Montreal studio. She creates bright and colorful illustrations to be used in packaging, editorials publications as well as other publications. Her style is high-contrast, colorful, and bold and usually has a muted political message hidden somewhere.
Maia is an absolute fan of color and a maximalist in her artistic style. Maia uses her work as a method to share her thoughts, voice out against injustices and to raise awareness for causes that mean a lot to her. My design style as "High Contrast'.
My style is high-contrast vibrant and bold, usually with a some subtle message of social justice hiding in the background. I am a total color-lover and also a hugeist with my style of art.
What's the secret in creating your illustration?
One of the most important aspects of my practice is making work that speaks to my values and beliefs. I'm not the most outspoken or extrovert, and so I usually use artwork as a way to communicate my views or express my thoughts, talk about injustices and create awareness for the causes that are significant to me.
