Honoring History, Ensuring the Future's Success: International Women's Day 2024

Mar 20, 2024

The 8th day of March, people gather for celebrating International Women's Day (IWD). It's a day to acknowledge the achievements achieved by women, to consider the challenges they have to overcome and commit towards a world where women can be treated with equal respect. It's clear that this event didn't happen by chance. It's a culmination of decades of struggle, determination and unwavering commitment. Today, we celebrate the day and invite anyone to be part of our celebration for a short journey through the rich background of IWD which is a proof of the continuing effectiveness of collective action.

From Seeds of Change to a global Movement

The seeds for IWD were sown in the early 20th century. It was during this time that the fight for women's rights gained momentum. On March 8 of 1857 the women took to the streets in protest at the low conditions of work as well as a absence of women's protections in their work of clothing. This strike called for an enlightened work schedule as well as fair wages for living. A few years later, in 1908 on March 8, an organized march by female working in the needle trades was held to protest child labor and the working conditions of work in sweatshops and to demand that women be able to vote. In 1910, two years after the march, March 8th was every year celebrated as International Women's Day.

A catalyst for change

The 20th century was a time when IWD became a significant powerhouse for positive change. It became a platform for women to raise their voices in areas of fair working conditions and wages, as well as accessibility to education. In 1975 it was the year that The United Nations officially recognized IWD and affirmed its significance all over the world.

A Day of Celebration and Action

In the present, IWD is celebrated in many ways, from inspiring rallies to intimate celebrations. It's a time to recognize outstanding women from every profession including artists and scientists to activists and business owners. It's vital to recognize that IWD isn't merely an occasion to honor, but also it's also a chance to do something about it. It highlights that the struggle to ensure equality for women and men isn't over. The fight must be continued to push for equal opportunities to challenge negative stereotypes and support girls and women across the globe. The primary theme for International Women's Day 2024 is " Invest in Women to make progress" with the popular trending hashtag "#InvestInWomen...
