Five Reasons to Join Our New Slack Community: Global SaaS Leadership --

Mar 23, 2022

The TL;DR version of this article reads like this:

  • We just launched a new (free!) Slack community: Global SaaS Leaders.
  • The program is open to the leaders of established SaaS as well as software firms (including founders! ).

Why we're starting a free Slack community

Because community is awesome!

No, seriously.

Yes, there are other SaaS and software community out on the market. A lot of them are fantastic.

When we began to think about making the type of community that uslike to be part of, we saw the opportunity to make something new.

To that end, we created Global SaaS Leaders as a space with five unique qualities:

1. Global Focus

We discovered a variety of SaaS and software-based communities that were U.S.-based or centered on a particular location.

Global SaaS Leaders will be distinct. could be within the U.S., but our customers as well as the broader SaaS community are spread all over the world.

As we grow the community, we'll become conscious of establishing a broad member base and global view.

2. The design is geared towards leaders of long-standing SaaS and software companies

One of the most engaging software conversations we found online revolved around the idea of starting an entirely new SaaS company:

Conversations like these are extremely beneficial for those who are trying to build the foundation of a SaaS.

In the end, we discovered that it's quite difficult to find helpful conversations between leaders from established SaaS and software companies.

This is why we've decided to establish a community for SaaS people who are thinking of growing and scaling up an already established software-based business, not building minimum viable products or getting seed stage funding.

If you're a life-long entrepreneur who has a self-funded SaaS already doing $10,000 a month, we'd like to connect you with other entrepreneurs just like your.

Similar to if you're the developer leader at a venture-backed start-up which just crossed the threshold of $10 million a year.

We will focus on that on the upcoming Global SaaS Leaders: to make a place where you can talk about the specific challenges you face when you achieve product-market fit and then begin to scale.

3. Professionally moderated

It is the work of a determined and skilled moderator (or team with moderators!) to create a positive, friendly culture in a group.

There's a lot we've learned by observing the Reddit community, r/entrepreneur for instance.

Yet even the most reputable communities such as this one sometimes struggle with concentration. It's telling that the No. top thread in the past year was an argumentative post on how the rise of cryptocurrency has dominated the feed:

Katie Stephan and Nathan Collier (authors of this blog!) is the initial moderation team in the launch of the Global SaaS Leaders community.

We have spent more than an entire decade of in the field of moderating online communities, with hundreds of members.

and creating and launching this community is one of the job description.

The conversation will remain focused to SaaS and software -- and we'll ensure that you won't have to deal with spam, unsolicited offers Personal attacks, trolling of any sort.

4. Does not focused on venture capital , or funding rounds

It doesn't matter if you're bootstrapped, venture-funded, private-equity supported, or another ownership model.

World SaaS Leaders won't be a place with a major focus on financing rounds or exit strategies.

Instead, we hope to provide a space to have discussions about hiring, revenue and profit tools price models, technology infrastructure, as well as anything other that can contribute to the growth of the business of software.

It's fine if members occasionally talk about funding. However, it shouldn't be the only debate.

5. The most supportive SaaS as well as software communities online

Certain online communities can be dangerous locations.

Whatever you're looking for, where you're from, and whatever your experience, we'd like you to feel comfortable posting and engaging in our online community.

Katie as well as I are going to do what that we can to foster a supportive and positive environment in the new community. Also, we won't tolerate personal attacks, bigotry, racism, sexism, or any kind of disrespectful conduct.

Our aim is not anything less than to create the most supportive SaaS and software community on the internet.
