Custom-designed and frequently hand-crafted top hats, masks, butterflies, crowns and paintings for backdrops. technique to get the smallest particulars, influenced by the old noir movies from the 30s and 40s. A lot of time and patience goes into every photo of fine art by the talented Italian photographer Giulia Valente.

We asked Giulia what her secret to producing her high-quality photography was. Here is her story.

"I graduated from Padua University in disciplines of Music, Art, and Theatre in 2006. I have always been attracted by art: one aspect I love about living in Italy is the fact that art is everywhere. It's simple to get inspired.

My style can be defined as fine-art photography: I see continuity between painting and photography. In many ways photography is like painting's younger sister. Photos, in addition to paintings is my primary sources when I'm planning-to-shoot and retouch the next project."

"Giovanni Gastel, the just passed away Italian photographer, once said that one must throw out 10,000 good ideas prior to getting the right one. I try, in my own small way to apply this principle. In fact, I have an entire journal of thoughts sketches, notes and thoughts that are bound to be kept on paper for the rest of my life.

The first step to take when creating a new idea is planning. Pre-production is vital to decide that define the concept, and then make drawings, collect objects/props... This can be an extremely long and stressful process due to the fact that this kind of photography calls for a lot of concentration and even an obsession with the fine details, the things you don't immediately think about, but could make all the difference."

The Caterpillar (from "Wonderland" series) Year 2021. Model: Ilaria Fracasso. Dress Blue Lady Couture. Hat: Bizarre Noir. Photo, concept, styling, set, hair, makeup: Giulia Valente

What was the secret to making your caterpillar photographs?

"In the specific case in The Caterpillar project, I tried to identify the elements that identify the character, making him recognizable: the color blue, the hookah that smokes and the wings when he turns into a butterfly, but in addition, the way he looks - somewhat conceited and arrogant. After that, I attempted to bring all these elements together, combining them with the main style of the image I imagined.

The 3rd of May, 2021 an exhibit of some of my artworks was opened at Laboratorio Cardin(Padua, Italy). I'm very happy and grateful for this being my first show."

The artist's other exquisite art photos, which are that are rooted in Italian and Flemish paintings of The XV and XVI century, you can find the images on Instagram as well as her website..
