Do we have ways to allow AI harness the power of creativity of human beings? Perspectives from filmmakers and 's the Vice President of Creative

Sep 17, 2023

The fact is that AI will not go away.

The debate is ongoing regarding whether AI can become editors, writers or even concept art directors. a majority are accepting AI's inherent nature, and are considering the possibility of it transforming the way work is being completed. While at Cannes I listened to the views of some creatives like will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame discuss the way in which AI will alter the ways lives in the coming 10 years. Much of the discussion revolved around the ways in which AI can quickly unleash the creative potential of people and their impact on creative processes.

Being a creative director for many years, I was looking to express my thoughts and take this as an opportunity start a dialogue open with residents of our society.

What's the current state of affairs, and what can we do to improve our situation into the future?

Here's the thing AI can accomplish today.

"I was a magician before I began my film career. Pretty quickly, when you're a magician, you'll discover that any sufficiently sophisticated technology isn't able to be distinguished from the magic. The technology can even be scary in the event that you don't understand how it functions or the process. Similar to how I feel concerning AI for creators or a person who's making money from projecting something on your mind to the screen, or onto the display, AI is a scary aspect because it may control your work." Ben Proudfoot, Oscar-winning short document directory Found and the CEO of Breakwater Studios

Creativity is an essential human trait, which is one that AI can't duplicate it effortlessly.

Midjourney was introduced in July 2022. ChatGPT began operations on the 1st November of that same year. In the past, we've seen self-described "non-creatives" realize the power of their creative abilities, but it is largely unattainable due to skill gaps.

The results of some of these initiatives are fantastic and the tools have developed with such speed that you'd be forgiven if you'd completely forgotten that the tools just one year old. the past.

AI helps you convey concepts

Concepts of nuanced images and stories, or even music are limited by the necessary techniques and skills needed to put those concepts into being.

But in the past year, images like this are possible to create with just only a couple of keystrokes

The Midjourney 5.2 is the new norm for AI images.

Within 48 hours of the time it is already apparent that the population has exceeded their limits.

This is what we know as from now:

If you're a known creator, such as the Oscar-winning filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaili the chance is greater.

Think about his mostly artificially-generated short film " Last Stand," which depicts how humanity might react if extraterrestrials came into contact.

"Last Stand | Sci-Fi Short Film made using Artificial Intelligence."

By @HashemGhaili

"Disclaimed It's true that none of this is actually authentic. It was a movie made mostly with Al, which took care of writing the script, creating conceptual art and generating all the voices.

"AI will require us consider issues in ways that previously you've not even considered," says Crystal Edmonds the Director of Accounts in addition to Events Activation for Magnet Media Films. "I think it's going to expand our thinking. It will teach us new things we've never believed we would want to know about. I think you're going to discover that people are able to open a whole different level of creativity with AI."

Consider, for example, Staff Pick winner Paul Trillo's short film "Thank You for Not Answering."

Instead of trying to achieve realism He consciously focuses on the dreamy aesthetic that is which is inherent in Runway's Gen-2. "As someone who is sending a message to someone who has been in the past, it is filled with fragments of his fading memory and imagines a possible life."

A true artist He's adjusted to the limitations and the strengths of his medium and results in something unique.

AI can help you validate your ideas and help you market them

While the examples above illustrate the ways in which AI can be used to communicate the artistic perspective, AI for commercial use is currently a novelty.

Check out the artificially generated beer commercial. The commercial dates from its date and can't be considered to be a legitimate ad when it was viewed as a genuine advertisement.

It does provide enough information to present executives more efficiently than any mood board sketch or elevator pitch ever could.

With generative AI, there is no need to depend on words to create an image for more than 10 viewers. Instead, utilize the prompt of a descriptive nature to make the perfect sizzle movie and animatics or pre-visualizations for convincing viewers to be convinced of an idea.

What do these mean to creatives of today?

Learn how to write an effective demand for AI.

"I believe that the next generation of employees will become proficient in the technology readily available and will begin making use of the generative AI in both written as well as in writing," says Orlando Baeza the Chief Marketing officer and Chief Revenue Officer at Flock Freight. "I am actually convinced that there are plenty of potential for growth in the near future, however it will require upskilling our current force before the next generation of employees are able to improve this process."

AI could reduce production time

These days, movies take an the average between 2 and 3 weeks to make from beginning to end Yet, AI is speeding the process and enabling filmmakers to think more freely and gives production staff additional time to complete tasks that requires focused craftsmanship.

"I believe that one of the main issues that the industry faces is the expense of making films. This is a very high-cost way of making a film -one of the unique things about is that it democratizes filmmaking," continues Baeza. "So if AI and machine learning are tools that will help a person with limited resources, achieve a wide audience then that's an excellent idea, isn't it?"

AI has made video more efficient to make through the automated processes like editing transcription, personalization and the planning. Like, for instance the elimination of components from background videos has been laborious and time-consuming that does not need using the Generative Fill software.

"I believe that organizations will view AI as productivity and efficiency improvements," says Baeza. "I think AI will be incredible partners and probably be embedded inside of innovative organizations."

Here's the thing AI can't aid you in.

AI can't make you go viral

Machine learning works by crunching pre-existing data and taking the patterns of what it has previously consumed. As in the above example an AI machine or an generative AI software could generate an amazing image of a blue cup from the hundreds of images it has processed of blue cups.

It's not about repeating the same thing previously tried, but more of it is about framing the world in a different approach and providing a new perspective on the old concepts or making a connection that which no one else established. According to Steve Jobs famously said:

"Some individuals say to give clients what they want, but it's not the way I would go about it. It is our job to figure out what the customers are likely to need prior to giving them. My opinion is that Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked customers what they were looking for, they would've told me a faster horse. People don't know what they're searching at until you've shown the item to them. It is our job to translate the things that aren't yet visible on a page." Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple

Creativity is an amalgamation of art and science and AI is a winner in the scientific aspect of the equation.

There are a few standard, reproducible methods we use within the field and which AI can replicate for example, like the rule of threes or using a bold red font to promote the sale. But, AI isn't able to look ahead that can determine the impact of virality or pinpoint an innovative and new approach that customers will love.

If you're a creative person, this is great news. Make yourself stand out with your creative thoughts and then utilize AI to assist in bringing the ideas into reality.

AI cannot duplicate the artistic process

One of the greatest positive effects of creativity is -- no whatever the degree of precision your idea is, your concept becomes a reality that is its own when it's produced. Everyone who comes in contact with the idea will bring their own ideas and perspectives on the concept The final product has an aspect that could never have been imagined.

A film editor in the industry that I had worked with I was told "You could have filmed your storyboard, however your storyboard has no value right now. I'm just going to make use of footage that I already have." If everything was completed according to the plan, the editor could highlight specifics or modify the footage in a way which was different from the original plan.

At the moment, I can't think of how to utilize AI to replicate the process of creativity by using this technique.

AI isn't equipped with an artistic perspective it can introduce into the process like the editor or the filmmaker would. Therefore, even though AI could be utilized throughout the creative process --for instance, helping speed up the process of brainstorming and editing humans remain a part of the process of creating itself.

Be curious and keep your mind open

The bottom line is that AI will increase our capacity to share our ideas and also act as a catalyst to a new generation of creatives to come out and perform feats could never have imagined. If I could capture this moment in words I'd be excited and nervous like no other time for a lengthy moment, we're looking towards the future.

In reality, I'm an individual with a single thought and a set of opinions. It is important to continue exploring possibilities using a sense of curiosity and an open mind and participate in an exchange.

In the meantime, I'm interested to know what your currently stand? What have you learned about AI now, and the direction you envision the future of AI?
