With nearly 20 years of working as an entrepreneur- including owning a six-figure content marketing agency before launching her coaching business in 2015 Becky has learned the best practices best for her in terms of building an audience.

Today, three fundamentals drive Becky's advertising:

There's no need to be following the latest trends in social media.

Choose long-term strategies over instant gratification

Protect your work-life harmony to make sure your business lasts

Every day, a brand new marketing trend pops on the scene every single day. It can be a fast track towards feeling overwhelmed and diverted from the things you need to focus on. Becky took the conscious decision to focus rather on strategies and methods that are working for her.

At the moment, this means moving away from social media sites that create more stress than results.

"I am at the end of my rope in social media," she says. "I've removed myself from Facebook, which feels fantastic. It's the same with Instagram will be a bit less crowded. too much time there either."

Becky's principle of letting go of the 'shoulds is also applicable to social media, especially if you're trying to avoid doing too much at once.

"It begins to become a bit. It's time to start creating an account on TikTok first, then I have to create an additional reel... that includes a photograph in addition to video. I also have to have an idea that is thought-provoking in order to create a Twitter. Then I have to create something for Medium. It's too much," Becky describes.

"I believe we're reaching that place of overwhelm in our society and we are seeing people begin to say, 'I have to change some thing.'"

Instead of creating something new by scratch for every platform, think of new ways to use what you've done before. For example, you can turn a YouTube video into shorter clips for TikTok as well as Instagram Reels, and the transcript of the video can be used as the basis of a newsletter or blog post.

What is it like how do you have the power toown your followers? Your communication with them is via a channel or platform that you control, like your email list, your online community, or even your site.

Here's the way Becky describes the value of using email to control your customers.

2. Choose long-term strategies over instant satisfaction

After nearly two decades working as an entrepreneur Becky is aware of the strategies that work best for her. She is now going back to the tried and true methods -- even if they may take longer to reap the benefits.

When you're building a business It can be tempting to look for strategies that will pay dividends rapidly. It's easy to feel discouraged in the event that you do not see immediate success, but strategies that require time and effort upfront often result in more authentic, lasting connections with your customers.

The kind of work Becky does requires vulnerability and honesty from her clients, so they need to feel safe in her presence prior to committing to coaching. A consistent communication with her via weekly newsletters helps to build trust.

"Before people do one-on-one work with me, they typically have my email address for 6 months or a one year period," the woman explains. "I'm sending them emails every week as well as allowing them to get to know my personality. Some of them purchase something of a small amount but, over a long time, the individuals who will become my clients one-on-one will eventually invest in coaching."

The Gutsy Boss Podcast is yet another important element of Becky's game plan for the long term. "That's taken a long time to earn a profit," says Becky. "I've been doing my podcast for four years, and I'm only getting to the point where every month I'm having an increase in the number of people who listen to my podcast."

SEO is the process of making your site as well as your content and product easier for people to find through the search engines. Content that is optimized will show up more in search results for pertinent terms and keywords. The more optimized your content, the more easy it will be for your intended audience to discover it through searches.

Becky was the founder of a content marketing agency before becoming a coach as well as an SEO coach. SEO has been able to stand the test of time across careers.

"SEO is a tried and true strategy which works," she says. "SEO is a long game, however it's an investment that yields dividends. Instead of making something that only has a shelf life of two seconds, SEO can be an ongoing shelf that will go on for years."

As she tailors her blog and website content keeping her audience's specific needs in mind, possible customers can find Becky's blog by searching. After they have her blog, the content she has to offer and her unique insight will keep them engaged, reading as well as subscribing to her newsletter and frequently turning into clients.

"I was the only one who could answer that question because there wasn't someone else answering that question in that way. If it was the last solution they came up with that question, then it's the answer that resonated with them, meaning I was answering in the way that they wanted to hear, and then they're going to be drawn to working together with me."

Finally, Becky finds herself networking (what she calls an "old traditional method for marketing") and working with that network to reach more potential customers.

"Getting involved and talking with my current network, and using old-fashioned in-person networking to meet new people... being able to be a part of others' audiences has proven extremely beneficial, be it meetings or simply partnering with people," she says.

What do all these audience-building techniques have in common? They aid Becky keep a healthy work-life harmony, which has become more important as ever for artists over the past few years.

3. Maintain your peace of mind at work and build a lasting business

"It was like all of a sudden, every business was an online company during the pandemic. It caused a general burnout" Becky recalls. "I'm getting it from many people: We're all just sort of exhausted running an online business."

Becky seeks out ways to increase her reach and company without detracting from her lifestyle that she's created and wants to continue to live a life she enjoys. "I have a family and I want to have the time of my life. I don't want my existence to be creating content all the time."

"How do I make best choices that allow me to live my life and still expand my following?"

Productivity and growth can be wonderful things, but not when they are at the cost of your mental wellbeing.

"I need to contemplate the ways I can use my time the most efficiently but not simply because I'm looking to accomplish more and get more done, but because I want to have a existence."

Get rid of the "shoulds in order to create the business that's right for you

Becky helps her clients develop businesses and not burn out, and it's clear this is a result of her years of finding that balance herself.

Her company has come quite a ways since her first course launched in the year 2018. But the heart and soul of her coaching in helping people to let go of the'shoulds' -- remains steadfast in her content, products as well as her own method of expansion.
