Can AI unlock creative possibilities? Views from film makers and Vice President of Creative
There is no doubt that, AI will not go away.
There is an ongoing discussion about the possibility that AI will become editors, writers as well as conceptual art directors lots of people have accepted AI's inevitable nature and are now thinking about the potential to alter the manner in which work is completed. At Cannes, I heard perspectives from creatives like will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas fame discuss the different ways AI will alter the ways we live in the next decade. Much of the discussion was on the ways in which AI rapidly unlocks the full potential of people and their influence on creativity.
I've been a creative director over some time when I made the decision to express my opinion and take this opportunity to have a dialogue with people in the community.
What's the status currently of the game, and what's the next steps to get there?
Here's the way AI can accomplish right now.
"I used to be a magician before I became a film maker. When you're a professional magician, you understand that every new technology is comparable to magic. And magic can be scary even if you're unsure of whether it's functioning or exactly what's happening. The same way that I'm with AI in my role as an artist or person who is paid to send an idea you've had in your mind, on the page or the display, AI can be a frightening issue as it might become your replacement." Ben Proudfoot, Oscar-winning short document directory. named Breakwater Studios' CEO. Breakwater Studios
Humans are naturally creative. trait that an AI can't simply duplicate.
Midjourney was launched in July 2022. ChatGPT began on November 1st in that same year. The past has observed self-described "non-creatives" come up with innovative ideas which were not utilized due to the lack of expertise.
Certain of these inventions are amazing and the instruments have developed in such rapid pace that it's easy to forgive if you've forgotten the fact that they're only one year old.
AI can help you communicate concepts
Nuanced concepts for films, stories, images and even music are hampered by the techniques and skills necessary to translate these ideas to life.
But in the past year, images like this could be created by a few keys
Experienced creators such as the Oscar winning filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaili have the chance to be greater.
Have a look at his AI-generated short film " Last Stand," which depicts how we would feel in the event of aliens making contact.
"AI will require us think about the world in ways we've not thought about before," says Crystal Edmonds the Head of Accounts and event Activation for Magnet Media Films. "I believe that it's going to increase our understanding. It will teach us something we've never imagined we would want to know about. There's a good chance that you'll find that individuals can unlock an entirely different level of creativity with AI."
Consider, for example, Staff Pick winner Paul Trillo's short film "Thank You for Not Answering."
Instead of striving to attain realisticity, Runway deliberately leans into the dream-like aesthetic inherent to Runway's Gen-2. "As one who leaves a message for a person who is from the history, he's overwhelmed with remnants of his lost memories, and imagining the life which could have been."
Being a genuine artist, He's adapting to the limitations and potentials of his medium in order to make something unique.
AI is a great tool to validate your concepts
Make no mistake, while these examples are gorgeous of ways AI is used to transmit an artistic vision, AI for commercial use is currently, a gimmick.
Take a look at this AI-generated beer commercial. This was a product of the past and cannot be considered to be a legitimate advertisement when it was viewed as a genuine advertisement.
It does offer sufficient information in order to convey the idea to executives more effectively than any mood board or sketch pitch ever has.
Through generative AI means that you do not have to rely on your words alone to draw visually appealing images to ten or more people. Instead, you can make use of a descriptive prompt to creating the ideal sizzle movie, animatics or pre-visualizations, to convince viewers to buy into the concept.
What's that symbolism for today's creatives?

"I believe that this generation of employees will get more familiar with the technologies that are available and will begin using generative AI for both visually and in written form," says Orlando Baeza chief marketing officer as well as the Chief Revenue Officer of Flock Freight. "I actually think there's lots of potential for growth in the workforce there, but we'll have to upskill our existing workforce, and then this future generation can further develop the process."
AI could save production time
It is expected to take between two and three weeks from start to finish However, AI is speeding the process, allowing producers to produce more unique content and allowing production professionals the chance to concentrate with projects that require an organized approach.
"I think among the most pressing crises that the industry faces is how expensive it is for a film's creation. It's a high-cost barrier of entry to make film -- an crucial aspect of films is that they are accessible for everyone," continues Baeza. "So If AI and machine learning are instruments that can assist people with little resources, reach a large audience, it's certainly an excellent thing, isn't it?"
AI can already make videos simpler to make through automation of processes including editing transcription, personalization, and scheduling. For instance, the removal or addition of items from the background of videos is a tedious, time-intensive process -- however, it doesn't require Adobe's Generative Fill tool.
"I think organizations will see AI as efficiency and productivity improvements," says Baeza. "I am convinced that AI is going to become an effective companion and can be a in the creative companies."
The problem is that AI can't help you out.
AI will not help when you go popular.
Machine learning relies on the analysis of data from previous use and the patterns of what it had previously consumed. A generative AI tool could create an amazing image of a blue mug based on the thousands of photos it taken of blue cup.
It's not about doing the same thing over and over again. it's about looking at things in a new way or putting a fresh perspective on old ideas or making a connection no one else has previously accomplished. In the words of Steve Jobs famously said:
"Some people say give the customers what they want but that's not what I think. It is our job to know what they're likely to be seeking prior to granting them. I believe Henry Ford once said, 'If I'd ask clients what they'd want and they'd told me a faster horse. The people don't really understand what they're seeking until you've presented the item to them. Our task is to read what's not yet in the paper." Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple
Creativity is the result of art and science, and AI is a pro when it comes to the science aspect of the equation.
Certain best practices that are standard, repeatable practices we follow to improve our services and that AI can replicate, such as the rule of threes or employing large fonts in order to promote a sale. However, AI isn't able to see the future from a different perspective: it cannot detect virality or an innovative approach that the customer are sure to appreciate.
For creatives, that's good news. Make yourself stand out with your creative ideas which you then apply AI to transform your concepts into reality.
AI isn't able to reproduce the creative process.
One of the best benefits of being creative is the fact that regardless of how precise your idea is, the idea will become a reality of its own when it's created. Every person that touches your idea brings their own ideas and perspectives on it. This means that the final item has a unique appeal that could not be imagined by you.
A film editor in the industry that I had worked with stated, "You might have shot your storyboard, but the storyboard is useless today -- I'm planning use the footage I have." Although everything was shot according to the plan in the storyboard, this film editor may highlight some aspects or modify the film in a manner which was different from the original idea.
At present, I'm unable to find a way for AI to replicate the process of creativity in this manner.
It doesn't have a unique artistic perspective it can introduce into the process like the filmmaker or editor would. So, even in instances where AI is utilized to aid in the creative process, for example, to help speed ideas or edits -- humans are still integral to the creative process itself.
Stay curious and keep your eyes open
The bottom line is that AI can increase our capacity to think and express thoughts. This can be a catalyst for an entire new generation of artists to emerge with the ability to accomplish things that you've only dreamed of. If I were able to capture this moment in a phrase, it would be anxious and exuberant because this is the first occasion in a period of time, we're looking toward the future.
Actually, I'm a single person with a single opinion and set of thoughts. We should continue investigating the possibilities using a fun curiosity, maintain the mind open, and engage in a dialogue.
As of now I'm curious to know what you think about where you are? How are you using AI currently, and what direction do you think AI is taking our industry?
