Art as a way to escape The CreativeMindClass Blog
I'm originally from Venezuela. My birthplace was in a city with a tropical climate, with hills and palm trees, however I wasn't permitted to explore my surroundings (partly because of my parents' excessive protection but mostly because of the apprehensions that plagued my home country). Most of my life was spent indoors. TV and books became my preferred methods to escape. So was drawing! I could be found drawing all the time my most loved anime characters, my buddies as well as pets that I didn't get to own, costumes, and all kinds of other things.

It was mainly a hobby which made me a aware that it would not be a full-time job in Venezuela. My family decided then to relocate to the UK which brought about a change for me. As a teen I had finally been granted some autonomy as I was able to explore places by myself as well as think about things I'd like to accomplish.

My interest in the design of characters and stories is what led me to comics, which motivated my desire to sketch. The whole thing was one. After some years of study (and lots of work) I'm currently freelancing as an illustrator in London.

I think my work can be described as fun and bold, and a bit chaotic (in an appropriate way!). It could be easy but it could also be highly detailed. But the illustrations always feature a figure or animal or even a beautiful scene. I believe all my illustrations are one in the same.

What is important to me is having fun with it. It is easy to recall aspects that I was captivated by when I was a kid in my youth: vibrant hues and characters which offer sneaky, hilarious moments, and little, tiny details to get lost in. I'm trying to encompass as many of these elements when I design something brand new. If I can get viewers to be satisfied or happy and feel as if they have discovered something new, then I've accomplished the goals I've have set for myself.

"Another crucial element I'm seeking is the sense of humor. Over time, it became apparent that I'm not the most qualified person to produce work that's serious or abstract. Yet, I'm quite skilled in creating something enjoyable and lighthearted enough to make people laugh. I'm playing according to my strengths."
