The fiber-artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist and illustrator based in Baltimore. I moved here to go to Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and became friends before we started Beyond the Studio. Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years I've worked hard to build my small art business Close Call Studio where I work all day long.

How would you describe the style you prefer?

My art style, whether that's drawing, sewing or whatever is unselfconscious designed to please and inspire those who see it. It's possible to be moody and explicit and some of my pieces can seem a bit darker, but I always have an element of comedy and playfulness involved.

What are the keys to creating art?

It changes from season to year, however having an attitude that is "no pressure" in the studio is a must to me at the moment. I've been a huge quantity of stress on myself which didn't reflect positively on my work or the rest of my life. Creating spaces for relaxation and garden are as essential to my process when I sit down to draw.
