Are Online Courses Required to Have a Certificate? -

Dec 9, 2022

A lot of people are wondering if having a certificate for their course makes sense, or if it is silly.

I get it.

But you have to consider this: It doesn't matter!

When you think about it the idea of a certificate was an original type of the game. Nowadays, there are badges and points, leaderboards and more. Before all these things there were certificates. The tangible product that serves as proof that the content has been learned.

Establishing a Community around Certificates

They go far beyond motivating students, they also can help in establishing a sense.

For instance, continuing education institutions have for a long time used certifications and CEUs (continuing education units) to build a sense of community around their programs and career.

It's the same for universities.

But you don't need to possess "official" certificate to be able to use them for community building purposes.

Take a look at Troy Dean, my friend's WPElevation program. The program offers certificates, and is just one of the ways he builds his network. His students reguarly print-off their certificates since they feel satisfied with their accomplishments.

What's more you can use certificates as a way to successfully sell your course again by adding expiration dates. This is a nice strategy to ensure that students return to take more courses each year. If you run a business selling courses then this strategy is a great way to boost your profit margin.

So if you are wondering whether or not to use certificates to run your own program, I would suggest you do it.

While you may feel silly at first you will see the impact they can have on your learning program. impact on your learning program.
