An illustrator for books, Soosh, talks about her fairytale illustrations.
When I was searching for Soosh in order to start this piece correctly, I discovered her videos. If you've ever seen her work, then you'll realize that it's like an old fairytale is reborn. By also adding her voice in the form of tales, she creates the whole experience a complete and enchanting one by bringing the fairytale characters of her work to life. Read on, but be sure that you visit her YouTube channel with a cup of hot tea. Get ready to enjoy a fairytale-themed evening.
We asked Soosh about the key for capturing those small daily moments in her work.
"Hello, I'm Soosh. I was born and raised by the people. I do not identify myself with any country, nationality, religion, or anything else. I spend my time watching people and myself and analyzing the details of everything. This is a difficult path. I didn't choose it intentionally and yet I'm on it. If it's traditional art education, I have none whatsoever.

While I'm aware there are different ways of painting and drawing are referred to as styles, I've never really given any thought to the sort of style my drawings would be able to qualify as. If I tried to find the words to describe it, it would be something like a "fairytale realist" kind of style. But speaking frankly, no style.
I think the key, as I understand it, is to see through your heart as with your eyes. It might take some repetition to pay attention to the smallest of things, like with any other skill. The trick is to remain quiet for some time and remain present for the moment. Be attentive. Pay attention, but not too much.
My primary interest has been always the people. Their expressions on their faces, their mimics, their gestures, their actions of kindness and their weaknesses - all of it's fascinating and interesting to me. Then it's only an issue of time, some pencils, and some watercolour to dive into and bring life to the everyday images on paper."
